Cross-Cultural Communication
Recently in college, six of our students had a cross cultural communication online with students of the Interantional Relations class in American University Washinton D.C. I was heading this project and spoke to the students of both the sides, all of them were really happy that they got a chance to take part in a discussion of this sort which helped them understand each other! Our students found out some interesting facts about the American student life and culture and also cleared stereotypes that American students had about the Arab world and vice versa!....lets see what experience can the students share with us!

- there a certain age when you move out of the house and become independent in America that When you turn 18 in American you're legally an adult, which means that if you commit a crime you can be arrested and tried as an adult. Most people turn 18 in their last year of high school, so we many people do move out of their house then.
ReplyDelete- In America it can be hard to spend a lot of time together, but at least in her family they eat dinner together and have family time every weekend.
- In America some girls have lots of boyfriends, but others only ever date one person and then they marry them. It really depends on what each individual girl wants. In many families both parents do work and it can be hard to find time to spend with each other.
- It's hard to think of traditions that are specific to America because it's such a big country; so many traditions differ depending on where in the country you are. Most people like to watch some sort of sport. Some of the most popular are football, baseball, hockey, and golf. Religious traditions vary a lot because we have so many religions, so it really depends on which religion you follow.
- They think that we are arabs multiple generations live together in one house , and the most of women are not educated and most of women get married.
I feel like I learned a lot about Omani life, and enriched my understanding of the Omani culture. Family is very important to the Omani people, and it is not uncommon for students to live with their families for years after they graduate high school, which is not usually the way it is in the United States.
ReplyDeleteOman is also a very patriotic country, and very proud of their traditions and culture, and their cultural traditions and legacies. I also felt that the Omani students were very nice and friendly towards me when I tried to talk to them.
